***LATEST TRAIL REPORT UPDATE (JULY 6th): It looks like we will indeed be expecting snow above the campsite, so be sure to bring appropriate footwear. Personally, I'll probably go with waterproof hi-top hikers, gaiters, and yak tracks***
I've lived in Vancouver for almost 6 years and, sadly, have never done either of these hikes! It's time to hit these classics, I'd say.
The trip will look something like this:
Saturday - meet up in the morning and drive to the trailhead. Hike up the switchbacks to either Garibaldi Lake or Taylor Meadows and set up camp. Continue hiking (with lighter packs, hooray!) up to Black Tusk. Final scramble up the Tusk is optional. Hike back down to camp for some rest and relaxation.
Sunday - head up from the camp to Panorama Ridge, admire views, take pictures etc. Hike back down to camp, pack up, and head back down the same switchbacks we came up. Possibility to stop at the Howe Sound Pub for dinner and/or drinks on the way back.
This trip is not technically difficult so beginners are very welcome. Pace will be relaxed (translation: I'm not known to be the fastest hiker!).
Trip will only go in decent weather, since the views will be the main feature. Final decision to be made the Thursday prior based on the forecast. If the weather looks lousy, I'll aim to reschedule for another weekend.
