Update: I can take up to 4 passengers from Columbia Skytrain Station at 7:30am
The lightning lakes circuit is one of the most popular hikes in Southwest BC. Heading to the farthest lake (Thunder Lake) and back is approximately 24km round trip, but with little elevation gain.
Lone Mountain lies just a bit over 1km south of Thunder Lake (and about 600m above it), and is rarely climbed. There probably isn't any good reason to climb it, other than that I keep seeing its name in Beckey's guidebook and therefore it must be done! Participants on this trip are welcome to join me of an ascent of it, or to relax for a few hours (probably around 4 hours) at the lake while other people make their way up the peak. Online reports suggest the peak should be a fairly easy slog from the lake, requiring an extra ~2 hours of ascent time from the lake. Ice axe recommended for people who want to go up.
Trip will be postponed if forecast is for poor weather.
We will depart from at the park & ride lot at the SW corner of Sumas Way and Lonzo Rd in Abbotsford at 8:00. This should get us hiking by 10:00 and I expect to be back at the cars around 8pm. Sunset isn't until 9pm or so, and so we shouldn't have any time pressure, but expect to be back in town quite late. Organize carpooling via the trip forum on this site
