See Alpine Select route #'s 36 &37: "As a gentle introduction to mountaineering, these climbs have much to recommend."
This trip involves riding the Whistler-Blackcomb lifts from the Village and short (45 minutes) hike to a nice camping spot beside Blackcomb Lake and beneath the routes. After reaching our camping spot we will climb Blackcomb Buttress (low-5th class), descend via the east ridge of Blackcomb Peak, and return to camp. The next day we will climb the ridge on the east side of the DOA couloir (5.7), descend to camp, pack up, hike out and ride the lifts down to the village.
Trip organizer will supply some of the group gear, including map, GPS, satellite messenger and first aid kit. Shared tents, stoves and ropes will be organized once the trip participants are finalized.
Each trip participant needs to provide his/her own: helmet, harness, crampons (aluminium ok), ice axe, belay/rappel device, warm & weatherproof clothing, food and hydration.
Please Note: Camping fees are now applicable for all camping in Garibaldi Park. Please use the online fee payment system for all areas of Garibaldi Park.
