**Trip pushed back by two weeks, better snow conditions and scheduling **
Depending on snow conditions, snowshoes may be prudent. But given the current state (Jan 31) of snow, we probably can get away with foot travel. I was up there the same time a few years ago on foot and hit whiteout conditions short of the summit.
The trail starts out as a good quality switch backing trail and will likely hit snow in the forest, at which point it becomes a long upwards journey. There is a short scramble at the very peak that may or may not be covered in snow. Hopefully fantastic views at the top (weather dependent).
Sturdy boots, ice ax, and poles recommended. Microspikes/crampons, snowshoes will depend on snow conditions.
This is a long trip, expect 9-11 hours of hiking, 1781m elevation gain, ~20km return. We move at a moderate but steady pace, and the group stays together.
Trip may be cancelled if weather forecast is bad (rainfall warning / thick fog).
We meet at Braid Station in time for the first Saturday train for the transit takers among us.
Leave Braid 7:40am, hiking at 9:30am, sunset is 8:40pm.
