A little birdie told me that Needle Peak right now has some really crunchy snow and sucks for skiing. Well, good thing we're snowshoers right?
I've also heard (from the same little birdie) that the summit scramble on Needle Peak is quite icy, so might be a bit too sketchy at this time of year for my scrambling skills. The plan is to snowshoe to the final scramble, assess the conditions, then decide whether or not to attempt the summit. Time dependent, we should be able to go for the Flatiron Peak summit either as a backup plan, or as a second summit.
Let's meet at the Chevron station at Boundary x Dominion Street at 6:00am. Those who live east of here, we can make alternate arrangements. We should be at the trailhead for around 8:00am to maximize daylight hours. In the summer time, the round trip car-to-car for the Needle Peak summit was only about 6 hours, but this trip will be a bit more dependent on the conditions.
This trip will go in mixed weather or better, assuming the visibility isn't compromised. Final decision to be made based on the forecast the Thursday prior.
