A lot of switchback hiking through the forest followed by a beautiful snowshoe across Taylor Meadows past Black Tusk and toward Panorama Ridge. Turnaround point will depend on the time to ensure we're back at the parking lot by 4:30pm. The pace will be moderately easy... several short breaks for snacks and photos.
For those new to snowshoeing, please review this online video on Snowshoeing Basics:
We'll meet at St. David's Church parking lot (Taylor Way and Hwy #1) at 7am and leave there at 7:15am sharp so we can get the most of the available daylight. I'll send out an email on Thursday to mention weather forecast and any other details I think important at that time. The current plan is that we'll probably reach Taylor Meadows, top of the switchback trail, about 11-11:30am then we'll take a short break for food, water and to put on our snowshoes. Then we'll travel into the meadows aiming to be back at the 'start' of our exploration at 2:30pm so we can descend back down the switchback trail at 3pm and reach the parking lot about 4:30-5pm. There is a reasonable chance that we will be in the dark for part of the switchback trail so please bring a bright headlamp (new batteries). Also bring several extra layers of active-wear clothing... when the sun goes down we'll probably feel a noticeable drop in temperature.
