Trip Description

See page 175 of the latest edition of the Baldwin guide.

Mid October trip reports indicate that the first half of the trail is still dry. It's very possible that we will be hiking some distance in ski boots.

Travel to trailhead, via FSR 39 and 37, avoiding the washout on FSR 39. The 14km round trip route has opportunities for runs of up to 250m on the east side of the divide. Given the anticipated loading (~20cm) in the last 24 hours following a long stretch of sunny days, we may be limited to simple touring along the ridge trail, depending on observations of snowpack stability. A good way to start getting your feet callused for an awesome winter of touring.

ALL participants MUST have the following equipment:

Beacon, Probe & Shovel

AST-1 or higher training

AT/telemark ski or splitboard setup (including skins)

Headlamp

Appropriate clothing for being out in the elements all day

Enough food and water to remain on the move for most of the day

Workable method for carrying skis for dry portions of the trail

(trip organizer will carry the following items: first aid kit, GPS/Compass/Map)

Please consider NOT seeking to join this trip unless you have conducted your own research into the route, and compared that with your own experience, fitness level and skill.
