Presentation: Thursday 28 February 6.30 pm at Peter Woodsworth's place. Building techniques for various shelter options: eg igloo, emergency snow trench, snow cave and quinzee. Gear options discussion.
Workshop Weekend: Hopefully on 9/10 March, depending on snow conditions on Mt. Seymour. I plan to use snow shoes so non-skiers can participate. This is a “hands-on” weekend in the local mountains so that there should be sufficient time for all students to participate in building at least two shelters and sleeping in one. Self-sufficient camping gear required: bring a tent if you want to! Obviously a snow saw for block cutting and snow shovel are needed. I also recommend a bivvy bag which also accepts your mattress to help keep stuff dry, and a tarp in case things go south.
