The Basic Program is for those who have never climbed outside or want to revisit the basics. This program, or an equivalent, is a prerequisite for Essential Rockclimbing. Maximum of 8 participants.
April 21 Evening intro. One day, Saturday April 25 or Sunday 26 (weather dependent).
Topics covered:
- safety
- environmental issues
- basic equipment
- basic climbing skills and techniques
- the elements of top-roping (tieing in, belaying, lowering, etc.)
The program will not cover setting up top-rope anchors, rappelling, or belaying from above.
Equipment Required:
- harness
- belay device (no figure 8s)
- 2 locking carabiners (Ds or ovals)
- 1 large pear/Munter carabiner
- helmet
Some of these items can be rented from area retailers. BCMC mentors or the club will provide other needed equipment.
Cost: $60 (plus BCMC Membership if required)
