The current plan is to spend Friday evening in Lillooet at the Mile 0 motel or camping nearby. This will allow us an early start for climbing in the Bridge River area on Saturday – Likely at a climb called Plan B. Saturday evening will be spent again at the Mile 0 motel or camping in the local area putting us in a good position to climb at the Rambles on Sunday. We will be getting an early start both days. The climb locations may change depending on participate skills and weather conditions.
The topics covered will include:
Clothing and foot wear
Front pointing on crampons
Use of ice tools - swing and placement
Placement of ice screws
V-threads
Leading on twin ropes
Selecting a belay location
Climbers of all levels welcome. However, all of the participants will have to have some experience with leading on rock or multi pitch rock climbing as a second. All participants must have a harness, helmet, belay device, crampons and boots suitable for use with the crampons. Flexible boots with flexible crampons are not suitable for ice climbing. The club will supply the ropes. If you have ice screws, please bring them. Please also bring slings and gates suitable for a belay set up if you have them.
The club might also be able to provide a couple of sets of ice tools but the participants are strongly encouraged to supply their own (beg, borrow or steal).
Bring lots of warm clothes because there will likely be lots of standing around in cold damp conditions. A down jacket is an excellent idea. Also, bring several pairs of gloves because your hands will get wet. A small thermos for hot drinks is also a good idea. A backpack is required to carry all of the stuff.
Cost: $105
